Before paving any area, we will assess the project area and determine any issues or concerns, along with possible solutions. If needed, we will excavate materials that would otherwise negatively impact the finished project over time. Excavation consists of taking out inferior/non-filtering soils, as well as any roots, stumps and rocks. This step permits putting in sufficient depths of gravel depending on the application.
 

Grading is one of the most important steps in preparing any surface for paving. Grading, after adding gravel, allows water drainage.  The area is then compacted to create a smooth surface for paving.

Paving is done with a 2” base coat and a 1” finish coat of hot top. This is a recommended thickness of 3” total for a residential driveway. If it is not protected by the finished coat, the base coat will allow water to penetrate. This leads to problems with frost and erosion sooner if a finish coat is not applied.

Sealing is recommended on newly paved surfaces 6 months to 1 year after installation.
